French Bastille Day Celebrate in Pondicherry on July 13th & July 14th 2023

French Bastille Day Treditional Torchlight Parade 13.07.23

On this day, all the retired soldiers participate in the torchlight parade and celebrate the day by singing Indian as well as French National Anthems collectively. Soldiers wear uniforms and walk through the Pondicherry White Town streets in honour of those French soldiers who got killed in the battle. There is a French flag alongside the Indian flag which projects a mixture of culture and heritage.

July 14th 2023 The memorial is decorated and illuminated yearly on Bastille Day (14 July) in honour of the soldiers from the colony who took part in World War I. French government officials visit the memorial on occasion and lay flowers at the foot of the monument. French Consul General in Puducherry Lise Talbot Barré led the tributes by placing a wreath at the Monument aux Morts, (French War Memorial) on Goubert Avenue Pondicherry. Collector E. Vallavan also paid homage at the memorial site on behalf of the government. Councillors of the French abroad and representatives of war veterans associations also participated in the ceremony.
