Small cargo ship to Pondicherry for Trial to handle cargo Container delivery service begins at port on 15 after 19 years.A new port built in 1994 at Uppalam in Puducherry continued to handle cargo ships till 2004. After that the inflow of cargo ships decreased completely. After that, on March 15, 2017, an agreement was signed between Chennai and Puducherry ports for loading and unloading cargo. Accordingly, it was announced that Puducherry Port will function as a subsidiary port to Chennai Port.
For this work Uppalam harbor estuary has been dredged and 4 godowns have been handed over to the customs department. The containers from the ship are placed in godowns and transported to other parts of Tamil Nadu by heavy vehicles. The container delivery service of this ship will start on the 15th
