Thiruvathigai Veerateeswarar Temple is a Hindu temple dedicated to Shiva. It is situated in Thiruvathigai village which is about 2 kilometres east from the town of Panruti in the South Indian state of Tamil Nadu, India. Shiva is worshiped as Veerattaaneswarar, and is represented by the lingam. His consort Parvati is depicted as Thiripurasundari. The presiding deity is revered in the 7th century Tamil Saiva canonical work, the Tevaram, written by Tamil saint poets known as the nayanars and classified as Paadal Petra SthalamThe temple is considered the place where the Saiva saint poet Appar (Thirunavukkarasar) converted back to Saivism, and attained final salvatio

The temple priests perform the pooja (rituals) during festivals and on a daily basis. Like other Shiva temples of Tamil Nadu, the priests belong to the Shaivaite community, a Brahmin sub-caste. The temple rituals are performed six times a day; Ushathkalam at 6:00 a.m., Kalasanthi at 8:00 a.m., Uchikalam at 12:00 p.m., Sayarakshai at 6:00 p.m., Irandamkalam at 8:00 p.m. and Ardha Jamam at 9:00 p.m. Each ritual comprises four steps: abhisheka (sacred bath), alangaram (decoration), neivethanam (food offering) and deepa aradanai (waving of lamps) for both Veerateeswarar and Thiripurasundari There are weekly rituals like somavaram and sukravaram, fortnightly rituals like pradosham and monthly festivals like amavasai (new moon day), kiruthigai, pournami (full moon day) and sathurthi.The most prominent festival of the temple, Vasantha Utsavam, is celebrated for ten days during the Tamil month of ChittiraiThe festival deity of presiding deity and his consort circumambulate the temple and the streets in the village in different vehiclesVaikasi Brahmotsavam during the Tamil month of Vaikasi (May - June) and the ten day Sadayam star festival associated with the day Appar got salvation are other important festivals of the temple.

திருவதிகை வீரட்டானேசுவரர் கோயில் தமிழ்நாட்டின் கடலூர் மாவட்டத்தில் உள்ள பழமையான சிவன் கோவில் ஆகும். அப்பர், சம்பந்தர், சுந்தரர் மூவராலும் பாடல் பெற்ற தலமாகும். இது தேவாரப் பாடல் பெற்ற தலங்களில் நடுநாட்டு தலங்களில் ஒன்றாகும்.

இது பண்ருட்டியில் இருந்து 2 கிமீ தொலைவில் அமைந்துள்ளது. இந்தக் கோவில் தமிழ்நாட்டில் உள்ள எட்டு வீர சைவக் கோவில்களுள் ஒன்று. இது தென் ஆற்காடு மாவட்டத்தில் அமைந்துள்ளது. இறைவன் சம்பந்தருக்குத் திருநடனம் காட்டியதும், அப்பரின் சூலைநோய் நீங்கப் பெற்றதும், திலகவதியார் தொண்டாற்றியதும், மனவாசகங் கடந்தார் அவதரித்ததும், திரிபுரத்தை எரித்ததும் நடந்த தலம் இதுவென்பது தொன்மநம்பிக்கை (ஐதிகம்).

இப்பகுதியில் புத்தமதம் சிறப்பாக ஒன்பது மற்றும் பத்தாம் நூற்றாண்டு காலகட்டத்தில் இருந்தது என்பதை இங்குள்ள கல்வெட்டுகள் தெரிவிக்கின்றன. இத்திருக்கோயில் வளாகத்தில் உள்ள புத்தர் சிலை கோயிலுக்கு வரும் சிவபக்தர்களால் இன்றளவும் வழிபடப்படுகிறது.இந்த புத்தர் சிலை அமர்ந்த நிலையில் தியான கோலத்தில் உள்ளது. தமிழகத்தில் அமர்ந்த நிலையில் உள்ள புத்தர் சிலைகளே அதிகமாக உள்ளன. நின்ற நிலையிலான புத்தர் சிலைகள் மிகக்குறைந்த அளவில் உள்ளன. புன்னகை தவழும் முகம், புன்னகை சிந்தும் உதடுகள், சற்றே மூடிய நிலையிலான கண்கள், நீண்டு வளர்ந்த காதுகள் போன்ற கூறுகளுடன் மேலாடையுடன் இச்சிலை உள்ளது. இவ்வாறே திருவலஞ்சுழி வலஞ்சுழிநாதர் கோயிலில் பல ஆண்டுகளுக்கு முன்பு வரை நின்ற நிலையிலான புத்தர் சிலை ஒன்று இருந்துள்ளது. தற்போது அச்சிலை சென்னை அரசு அருங்காட்சியகத்தில் காட்சிப்படுத்தப்பட்டுள்ளது.

சிவாலயங்களுக்கேயுரிய வழக்கமான உற்சவங்களைத் தவிர அப்பர் பெருமானுக்காக சித்திரை மாதத்தில் நடத்தப்படும் பத்து நாட்கள் உற்சவமும், வைகாசியில் பத்து நாட்கள் நடத்தப்படும் பிரம்மோற்சவமும், அதன்போது விசாகத்தில் நடத்தப்படும் தேர்திருவிழாவும் திரிபுரசம்ஹாரமும் இவ்வாலயத்தின் முக்கிய உற்சவ விழாக்களாகும். தினசரி ஆறுகால பூஜை நடைபெறும் இந்தக் கோவில், காலை 6 மணி முதல் பகல் 12 மணி வரையிலும், மாலை 4.30 மணி முதல் இரவு 9.30 மணி வரையிலும் திறந்திருக்கும்.

சென்னை, திருச்சி, விழுப்புரம், கடலூர், சிதம்பரம், திருவண்ணாமலை ஆகிய ஊர்களிலிருந்து நேரடி பேருந்து வசதி உள்ளது. பண்ருட்டி பேருந்து நிலையத்தில் இருந்தும், ரெயில் நிலையத்தில் இருந்தும் ஒரு கிலோமீட்டர் தூரத்தில் ஆலயம் அமைந்துள்ளது.
